SECURITY PARTNERSHIP INSPIRED BY THRILLER FILM “MINORITY REPORT”

CLEVELAND, Ohio, Dec. 30, 2013 ~ Mace® Security International, an established manufacturing brand known for its personal defense pepper sprays and security equipment, announced today a joint venture with SoloMetrics LLC, to provide safety technology inspired by the film “Minority Report.”

The Steven Spielberg thriller, set in 2054, focuses on the role of protecting citizens by preventing crime. While watching the film, inventor Farhan Masood realized he could design the futuristic technology. And he went on to create a successful multi-national company called SoloMetrics.

Now SoloMetrics is partnering with Mace® brand to provide innovative technology and services that produce the next generation of safety and security products. The joint venture, named SoloMace, will significantly enhance the Mace® brand line of personal defense products and increase its range of law enforcement products.

“This partnership will create unprecedented opportunities in the area of security,” said John J. McCann, president and CEO of Mace Security International.

SoloMetrics is a Chicago-based research and development company that invents and assembles technologies addressing gaps in security and access control, time and attendance, business process automation and location-based tracking systems.

Under the newly announced partnership, SoloMetrics will work alongside Mace Security International, its partners and customers to create integrated, automated and intelligent products and solutions. SoloMetrics will utilize its arsenal of patent pending hardware and software technologies including biometrics, complex pattern and gestures recognition, augmented reality and big data.

Mace® plans to launch SoloMace in the summer of 2014.

“This will transform what it means to protect yourself and engage law enforcement in new ways,” McCann said.

Masood, an engineer whose work was recognized by the MIT Enterprise Forum in 2012, is known as the originator of the Arabic, Urdu and Persian languages on the Internet.

Carter Kennedy, interim CEO at SoloMetrics, said, “Our alliance with Mace® brings together technology and protection. It creates a security blanket for people who could be in threatening circumstances.”

BEARS CONFRONT PEOPLE IN SEARCH FOR FOOD: CONSUMERS TURN TO MACE® ANIMAL REPELLENT

CLEVELAND, Ohio (Dec. 23, 2013) ~ Despite the recent cold weather that has gripped the nation, biologists say that increasingly mild winters are contributing to fewer cold days per year and therefore less time for animal hibernation. As a result, bears are interacting more frequently with humans, who are taking precautions with pepper spray designed specifically for animal use.

“Our research indicates that animal attacks are the number one fear in terms of physical safety,” said John J. McCann, President and CEO of Mace Security International. “Already 13 percent of our pepper spray is purchased for use as a bear deterrent. Customers include park rangers, campers and joggers.”

In warmer climates, habitat encroachment results in more encounters between wildlife and humans. For instance, a black bear attacked a Florida woman walking her dog in a gated community earlier this month. The Associated Press has reported sightings of bears in urban and suburban settings when they are hunting for food in garbage cans. In June, a 300-pound bear wandered through downtown Orlando. In July, a 225-pound bear died after running into the side of an ambulance rushing to an emergency call north of Tampa.

The National Wildlife Federation has distributed safety tips in dealing with bears that specifically include recommended use of pepper spray.

The state of Montana suggests quick access to bear spray and even carrying multiple canisters. Use of bear spray is advised for when an animal is 25 feet away. Once a bear has retreated or starts to clean itself, leaving the scene as quickly as possible is advised.

“The spray is used like a fire extinguisher,” McCann said.

Concerns about animal attacks extend beyond bears and bear spray, to include canine defense.

“We had a postal worker say he sprayed a big dog once and it never attacked again,” McCann said. “The product is painful but non-lethal.”

Mace Security Int. sells its Central Station to Security Partners LLC

Mace Security International, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) is pleased to announce the divestiture of Mace CSSS, Inc. , its wholesale monitoring business (Anaheim, CA) in a sale to Security Partners, LLC (Lancaster, PA). The sale reflects the Board’s continued commitment to maximizing shareholder value. The sale will enhance Mace’s profitability while providing significant cash proceeds. The business was deemed by the Board to be a non-core asset after a rigorous strategic review of priorities and holdings. Due to an inability to scale the business cost effectively and the business’s net contribution margin loss in 2013 – the sale was logical and strategic. Mace Security International will continue to offer alarm dealers exclusive Mace programs and products through Security Partners LLC.

While precise terms of the sale are not being disclosed at this time, the Company is pleased to notify shareholders that the sale will add well in excess of $0.10 per share of working capital to the balance sheet with the vast majority of it being cash.  The balance of the purchase price will be in the form of notes receivable which will be paid out over the next eighteen months, with front-loaded payments.

Significant strategic measures have been achieved in the past 2 years to position the Company for the future.

These measures include:

1.       Divestiture of car washes

2.       Divestiture of real estate

3.       Divestiture of wholesale monitoring business

4.       Resolution of regulatory (EPA suspension & potential debarment) issues

5.       Measures to cut excess corporate overhead which did not include marketing reductions

6.       Move of the entire company from a high cost, multi location structure to a single low cost facility

The sale of the Wholesale Monitoring Business will allow the Company to focus on its crown jewel, Mace branded personal defense and security products. The personal defense business is profitable, on a standalone pre-corporate overhead basis, and a substantial pipeline of new customers is being developed. With the Wholesale Monitoring Business now divested, the Company does anticipate taking a one-time restructuring charge prior to the close of the calendar year. The charge relates to further non sales and marketing corporate reductions which the Company expects will improve profitability in 2014.

CEO John McCann said, “I am pleased to have divested the wholesale monitoring business to Security Partners LLC as it allows us organizationally to concentrate our focus on growing and marketing our core, branded products and solutions oriented businesses which have great growth potential and strategic long term value.”

Chairman of the Board Richard Barone said, “Now that the above measures have been executed management will focus on the organic growth of our core business. We are pleased that our ongoing strategic review has greatly cleaned up and clarified the business. We are committed to maximizing shareholder value.”

“We’ve seen a 200 percent increase in sales of tactical products,” McCann last month, after the company’s third quarter earnings release.  “Pepper spray is a highly effective tool that law enforcement sees as part of the protocols needed to protect and serve.”

Mace now supplies police agencies in Florida, Nevada, California, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, Georgia, NorthCarolina, Texas, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, South Dakota and Iowa.
