Mace Security International Adds Terrance W. Gainer To Board Of Directors

Former U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms Brings Significant Law Enforcement Experience to Role

CLEVELAND – (July 14, 2015) – Mace Security International, Inc. (OTCMKTS: MACE) today announced that it has named Terrance W. Gainer to its Board of Directors, effective July 14, 2015. Gainer (67) brings nearly 50 years of national and international law enforcement experience to the company.  The addition of Gainer, who will stand for election at the 2016 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, increases the company’s independent Board of Directors to six members.

“Without question, Terry Gainer is one of the nation’s preeminent security experts,” said Richard A. Barone, chairman. “His vast and diverse experience will be invaluable to us as we aggressively pursue the growth agenda for our recently launched Mace Tactical Solutions division that designs and produces non-lethal products for the government, law enforcement and military sectors under the Take Down® brand.”

Since retiring as the 38th United States Senate Sergeant at Arms in 2014, Gainer has been the chief executive officer of a private consulting business that designs innovative law enforcement programs that support military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.  During his tenure as Sergeant at Arms, he was appointed a Commissioner on the Independent Commission on the Security Forces of Iraq, charged with conducting an independent assessment of the Iraqi Security Forces and reporting the findings to Congress. He also served with the Special Envoy for Middle East Regional Security, which was created to advance the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute by assisting in strengthening security institutions.

From 2002 to 2006, he served as the Chief of the United States Capitol Police in the District of Columbia. Under his leadership, the Capitol’s police force nearly doubled in size and expanded its anti-terrorism responsibilities in order to properly protect the Capitol’s physical footprint of the nearly 8 million square feet of office space and 275 acres, as well as the elected officials, Congressional staff members, and the millions visitors it receives each year.

From 1998 to 2002, Gainer served as Executive Assistant Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Police Department in the District. In this role, he was responsible for the law enforcement operations of the Department, as well as led the Department’s efforts in a cooperative interaction with the Department of Justice.

Gainer began his law enforcement career as a police officer in the Chicago Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to homicide detective and then sergeant before, ultimately, being appointed chief legal counsel for the department.  After 20 years with the Chicago Police Department, he served as the director of the Illinois State Police from 1991 to 1998.

A native of Chicago, he is a decorated veteran who served in Vietnam and retired as a Captain in the United States Navy Reserve. Gainer received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Saint Benedict’s College, a Master of Science and a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University. He is married and has six children and 14 grandchildren. He is the past commissioner of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), a board member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and member of the Police Executive Research Forum.
